PUBLICATION ETHICS AND MALPRACTICE STATEMENT

Journal of Ethnic and Diversity Studies (JOEDS) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity. JOEDS follows the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to manage allegations of misconduct, complaints, retractions, and post-publication corrections.

1. Handling Research Misconduct
Allegations of research misconduct, including plagiarism, duplicate submission/publication, data fabrication/falsification, citation manipulation, or unauthorized use of Generative AI, will be thoroughly investigated by the Chief Editor and Managing Editor in consultation with the Editorial Board.

Investigation Procedure: Upon receiving a credible concern, the Editor-in-Chief will notify the corresponding author and request a formal explanation along with supporting raw data within 14 business days.

Sanctions: If misconduct is proven, sanctions may include immediate rejection of the manuscript, a prohibition from submitting to JOEDS for a specified period, and notification of the author’s home institution.

2. Post-Publication Corrections and Retractions
To maintain the scientific record, JOEDS issues formal notices for errors or breaches of ethics:

Corrections (Erratum/Corrigendum): Issued for minor factual or technical errors that do not compromise the conclusions of the paper.
Retractions: Issued in cases of severe plagiarism, fraudulent data, duplicate publication, or major ethical violations. Retracted articles will remain accessible in PDF format marked with a "RETRACTED" watermark, accompanied by a formal Retraction Notice explaining the reason.
Expressions of Concern: Issued if an investigation into alleged misconduct is inconclusive or ongoing.

3. Complaints and Appeals
Appeals Against Editorial Decisions: Authors who wish to appeal a rejection must submit a formal letter with their organisational letterhead and head of organisation's signature to the Managing Editor (`joeds2023@gmail.com`) within 30 days of the decision. Appeals must provide detailed, evidence-based responses to reviewer comments. Re-review will be adjudicated by an independent member of the Advisory Board.
Complaints Against Journal Operations or Staff: Complaints regarding peer-review delay, editor conduct, or administrative procedures should be directed to the Managing Editor or the Director of the Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA), UKM. Authors who wish to submit a complaint must submit a formal letter with their organisational letterhead and head of organisation's signature to the Managing Editor (`joeds2023@gmail.com`) within 30 days of the problem. Appeals must provide detailed evidence. All complaints will be acknowledged within 30 business days and resolved transparently. However, we wish to draw attention to the review workflow that requires a thorough process of checking, which requires a certain amount of time.
